Welcome to my bio,
Lyne James Turnbull has served children and families of the Bronx since 2001 as an educator. As a proud Caribbean native, born and raised in the U.S. Virgin Islands, she entered the NYC public school system as a high school immigrant student in 1990 and attended Wingate High School in Brooklyn. She graduated with full scholarships to attend SUNY higher education programs.
She holds an associate’s degree in Medical Technology from Alfred State College, a bachelor's degree from Stony Brook University in Clinical Science, a master’s in Middle School Education from Mercy College and her second master's in School Building Leadership from Bank Street College. As a product of New York public schools, she was uniquely prepared to take on the role of founding principal of New Pathways Academy (NPA) in the South Bronx in 2018.
Even though she served as an assistant principal for 8 years, a principal for the past 6 years; her greatest joy is teaching. A 10-year teaching journey that is defined by having the privilege of teaching Math and Science to elementary, middle and high school students. She is so humbled by the achievements that NPA has made over the last 6 years. Her school has doubled their proficiency scores in the last couple of years. Currently, Ms. Turnbull and her staff are proudly working towards International Baccalaureate authorization status as a candidacy school.
However, her journey continues with building leadership capacity among her staff and embarking on taking NPA into its new chapter of becoming an IB World School of the future. Lyne is also a proud mom to 3 beautiful adult children, Loron 27, Talib 26, Talia 23 years old and a 2 year old poodle, Kali.
